Introduction

This catalogue is the introduction to the collection of Museum Puri Lukisan in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. This collection is not only the most complete in Bali, but it is historically related by its two founders - then prince of Ubud, Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati and the Dutch artist, Rudolf Bonnet -- to the art movement of the 1930s which is at the origin of Ubud's fame in Bali and the world.

This catalogue doesn't simply give a list of the art works: it endeavors to explain them. First, it pays its dues to history, by trying to show the role played respectively by the local genius of the Balinese and by the influence of a few privileged guests such as Walter Spies and Rudolf Bonnet; this historical part is completed by a short history of the museum proper. The next step is to explain the idiosyncrasies of Balinese style - like full space, patterning - and to teach the art lover the keys to its appreciation.
Then comes the collection proper, followed by a short depiction of the related Balinese narratives. At the end, as a further explanation on the why's of Balinese art, are presented the pedagogy of Balinese painting and its peculiar techniques.

How to order

To purchase our museum catalogue use the order form and your complete address with phone and fax number, no shipments will be made to P.O. boxes. Shipment within the country US$ 35,- and for international shipment US$ 65,- includes delivery, insurance and tax. No refund or exchange is accepted.

Delivery

The order will be delivered by UPS Worldwide Express (international) and CARDIG Express Nusantara (local), please allow 3 business days for delivery. Items will be delivered separately. By shipping an airway bill will be faxed to you. If book is damaged upon delivery, please contact books@mpl-ubud.com

Payment

Payment can be done:
1. By credit card (master or visa), please note your expiration date. Your credit card is not charged until your order is shipped.
2. By transfer to bank account, which should be confirmed by faxing the transfer form to (62) 361 975136.
We do not receive cash payments. Any purchase will be processed after credit card approval is issued and transfer reconfirmed by our bank.
